All That Glitters...

Hi Fellow Prospectors,
Or should I call you “Rock Hounds?”
That’s a new term for me and it means:
a rock and mineral collector.

Aren't we all collectors of some sort?

Some of us collect stuffed animals, figurines or teapots. Others collect oil lanterns, angels or husbands. I think the best collection to have is FRIENDS.

The person who has friends far and wide is a very wealthy person.

As I embark on this theme of Jewels for the Journey, I have to admit that when it comes to gemstones, I’m a “material girl.”

I'm fascinated by all the different colors, cuts and transparencies of gems across the world. In fact, this blog is an effort to “redeem the time” I might otherwise spend in perusing jewelry shopping networks or over-dosing on cable news programs. And this from a woman who survived four years with two young children and no television reception!
I suppose it can happen to anyone.

Truly, we must guard our hearts! The images, sounds and thoughts we allow to impact our minds affect us in one way or another. We can easily begin to "collect" the wrong things. Often it takes a real trial or hardship to show us when our affection has latched on to the temporal things in this world rather than on the eternal.

And to those who say that images full of violence or horror don’t affect them, I have to ask ...
“How do you really know?”
Could such influences linger and lurk in one’s mind, much like the large, black racer snake that just sought refuge in my garage? No doubt recent downpours led it to seek dry ground. But HOW are we going to get it out from among the tubs and boxes that fill the space?

Patiently and deliberately, I suppose.
And so it is with guarding my mind and cleaning up my act!

May God’s Holy Spirit help me keep my mind and heart on heavenly things.
May all earthly collections pale in comparison with God’s Word and His promises.

“Delight yourself in the LORD and He will give you the desires of your heart.”
Psalm 37:4
