Honoring Motherhood

Through the ages the role of mothers in our society

has changed and been re-defined.

I remember the militant cries of the feminist movement

in the 1960s and 70s, when the role of stay-at-home mom

came under severe attack.

With new educational and career opportunities

it was seen as a waste of talent and gifts

to stay home caring for infants and children.

And yet, raising the next generation

is the noblest of callings.

To shape the mind and heart of a human being,

discovering personal aptitudes and

encouraging creative expression,

corralling instincts and modeling charity and respect,

is in my opinion a most holy endeavor!

So, to ALL Mothers of growing children:

I give you my sincere thanks

for the often overwhelming job you tackle

day in and day out...

For the sleepless nights and tons of laundry,

For the countless meals of Mac 'n Cheese

and breakfasts of scrabbled egg or French Toast,

For the bandaids and training bras,

Endless rides to sports and clubs

and Parent meetings,

For giving when you are exhausted

and choosing to love unconditionally.

What you do is of utmost importance!
